Enjoy a wonderful 'Mostly Mozart' evening with the Havant Chamber Orchestra!

Conductor: Robin Browning

Overture 'Mitridate' – Mozart

Clarinet Concerto – Mozart
Soloists: Robert Blanken

Overture 'L'Incontro Improvviso' - Haydn

Symphony No. 36 in C Major, 'Linz' - Mozart

Mostly Mozart …

You will only see a clarinet player on stage once in this concert – when our own Robert Blanken takes centre stage for the ever-popular Clarinet Concerto by Mozart.  The rest of the concert features music from an age before the invention of the clarinet!

Mozart himself was a great fan of the clarinet and wrote the Concerto for his friend and virtuoso clarinettist, Anton Stadler.  However, it was a new instrument and Mozart’s earlier works all make do with just flutes, oboes, bassoons, horns and trumpets in the wind section.

HCO will play the Overture to his opera Mitridate, King of Ponto and his Symphony No. 36.  Mitridate was written for the Milan Carnival when Mozart was just 14 years old.  The full opera was staged in 2017 at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden.  Symphony No. 36 is known as the Linz as it was written on a visit to the Austrian town in 1783.

Also added to the mix is the Overture to L’incontro Improvviso or The Unexpected Encounter, a comic opera composed in 1785 by Mozart’s fellow Austrian, Josef Haydn.
